I know what decoder is being used at any given time, that's not really my issue though, it's the fact that 1) I can't render video to MP4 and 2) Reaper is unable to playback AVI files when using the OS decoder even though Windows Media Player can play back my AVI files fine outside of Reaper. Hi Fran, many thanks, yes I am restarting Reaper after each change, in fact I only copy / delete the dll files when Reaper is closed. This is what they looked like afterwardsĪs you can see there are no options for MOV/MP4, MPEG's etc.Ĭould this be because the ffmpeg.dll file in the Reaper plugins folder is still pointing to the old dll files which are no longer there but updated with different slightly different file names? How do I get Reaper to direct to the new ffmpeg dll files? The latest build of ffmpeg doesn't come with an actual ffmpeg.dll file. So I noticed when I installed the latest ffmpeg dll files, that most of my render options disappeared. Please Reaper developers, fix this ludicrous state of affairs with video playback and codecs it's causing me no end of rage and frustration, I just want things to work and not have to f**k around with this nonsense.Īnd I am still no closer to resolving my initial problem of MP4 files only outputting audio files. To be honest I'm fu***ing fed up with all this damn codec nonsense, it really is the bain of our fu**ing lives!!! Why on earth will the new FFMPEG files not play AVI files and why would Reaper now be unable to play AVI files using OS decoder even though Windows Media Player can? Now AVI files will only play back in Reaper with the FFMPEG decoder but they won't if I use the OS decoder - whcih is stupid since Windows Media Playere can play back the files perfectly fine outside of Reaper! MP4 files could play back fine and with video. Then I noticed that AVI files would not play back from within Reaper! Whether the OS or FFMPEG decoder was being used, no AVI's played back but I could hear the volume.

dll files (avcodec.dll avdevice.dll etc.) into the Reaper64 folder and removed the old ones.

So I downloaded the latest FFMPEG 64bit build from here and I copied over all the relevant.
